The Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant negative impact on the shipbuilding industry.
GERMAN NAVAL YARDS has taken various measures since 2020 that are to position the company strongly for the time after the pandemic. A focus on the core business, leaner structures in the operational area, and the initiation of a multi-year transition are just as much part of the stabilization packages as broad-based liquidity protection. For this purpose, GERMAN NAVAL YARDS accepted the offers from the German Federal Government for the industry.
GERMAN NAVAL YARDS uses the stabilization funds granted by the Economic Stabilization Fund to accelerate its transformation and, for example, to advance digitization processes. This includes harmonizing and expanding the corporate IT landscape for more automation and efficiency in ERP management, increasing the degree of automation of the production facilities, and, last but not least, introducing the "paperless office" (including conversion to e-invoicing).
In addition, the company uses the stabilization funds granted by the Economic Stabilization Fund to support its initiated green transformation to pursue sustainability goals in terms of climate neutrality by 2050. This includes measures implemented as part of the ISO-certified energy management system to reduce energy consumption (e.g. conversion to LED lighting in the production halls and energy-saving pumps/motors in the company's infrastructure), the conversion from oil to natural gas heaters, the purchase of electric forklifts and investments in environmental protection measures.
