„We are proud being able to continue the shipbuilding tradition in the area of the Kieler Fjord, which is why the decision to support the association „HANSEKOGGE“ was not hard to make. We especially want to introduce our apprentices to the hanseatic cog encouraging it as an instrument of training and team building by common sailing and working “ Holger Kahl, Managing Director of GERMAN NAVAL YARDS Kiel is stating. „Furthermore this is a special expression of being connected to our facilities in Kiel.“
With this GERMAN NAVAL YARDS Kiel is becoming a supporting pillar for the association, which Wolf-Rüdiger Janzen, chairman of the association confirms: „The sponsorship with GERMAN NAVAL YARDS Kiel is an important step for maintaining the „HANSEKOGGE“ as it is located here - in situ in Kiel. I look forward to welcoming the apprentices on board as soon as possible.“
The Kiel „HANSEKOGGE“ is the first original reconstruction of a 23 m long cog discovery in the Weser delta. The original was dated 1380 and can nowadays be visited in the maritime museum Bremerhaven. Today the reconstruction - which was started as project for inclusion of long-term unemployed juveniles and used for research works – is operated on an honorary basis. Visitors get the possibility, to experience the art of mideval shipbuilding, but it can also be chartered for short or day trips.
